Short description

Another "Melissa-like" Internet worm. This worm arrives disguised as a screen saver that "melts" the screen (hence the name). When received and executed, it will use the Outlook address book to e-mail itself in messages similar to the one below

"Fantastic Screensaver"

"Hello my friend ! Attached is my newest and funniest Screensaver, I named it MeltingScreen. Test it and tell me what you think. Have a nice day my friend. p.s.: Please install the Runtime Library for VB 5.0, before you run the ScreenSaver."

In practice

Melting has a couple requirements

  • Outlook or Outlook Express must be installed on the target machine.
  • The runtime dlls for Visual Basic 5 must be installed in the target machine.

    When it activates, the Melting worm renames all EXEs in the Windows directory to BIN, making the machine unusable.
 
As usual, never execute ANY e-mail attachments.
