Explore.ZIP and Pretty Park

Short description

These worms surfaced in late May 1999 / and early June 1999. They both spread by e-mailing themselves. Full descriptions can be found here for Explore.ZIP and here for Pretty Park. Within four days of its discoveries, ExploreZip has been reported in several countries and seems to have hit the USA harder than any other place.

In practice

As far as Benelux is concerned, Pretty Park doesn't seem to have been reported in the wild, except when manually posted to mailing lists. We have reports that the worm is in the wild in France : overall we consider the Pretty Park threat to be low. Explore.ZIP seems to be slightly more widespread : we rate its threat as medium

Both worms are detected by a properly updated F-Secure Anti-Virus.
